2024 Chen Jing-Run Prize Conference

2024 Chen Jing-Run Prize Conference
2024-07-29

Introduction:

Chen Jingrun is a famous number theorist in China. He was elected as a member (academician) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. He was a researcher at the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, CAS. In those hard years, Chen Jingrun proved that a sufficiently large even number can be written as the sum of a prime number and a number with no more than two prime factors, which was a significant contribution towards the Goldbach conjecture. In the 1970s and 1980s of China, his stories, achievements and spirit ignited people's great enthusiasm for mathematics and inspired countless individuals to devote themselves to mathematics.

In order to commemorate the contribution of Prof. Chen Jingrun and promote his fearless spirit of loving mathematics, the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, CAS and the Education Foundation of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences established the "Chen Jing-Run Prize" to recognize outstanding work  by young mathematicians under 40 years old in the fields of algebra and number theory accomplished in the mainland of China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The winners of the Chen Jingrun Prize will be announced at the opening ceremony of the conference.

The prize is awarded every two years to at most two achievements each time.
