Title: Moduli Spaces and Locally Symmetric Varieties

Abstract: Moduli space of complex elliptic curves is the quotient of upper half plane by PSL_2(Z), and this quotient is isomorphic to the complex affine line as a complex variety. This construction has various generalization, for example, to some higher genus curves, abelian varieties, tuples of points on P^1 (Deligne--Mostow theory), higher dimensional cubic hypersurfaces, K3 surfaces, hyperkahler manifolds. We introduce some of these generalizations and discuss related problems.
